         Activity

Activity 1: This period of time for African Americans seemed limitless and exciting. Take time to research the stories of some of the African Americans who moved into public leadership positions. Why are these stories significant? What did it take for each of them to achieve their political position? What were some of their legislative goals?

Identify and write facts on each person:

  • How would you feel if some of the freedoms that you enjoy were to become unlawful?

      3.   Write an essay explaining how Johnson violated the Tenure of Office Act, the steps that led to his impeachment, and the result.
