What is MakerSpace?
A makerspace is a collaborative workspace where students can gather to work on projects, share ideas, and collaborate on creative endeavors. Makerspaces provide access to a variety of tools, equipment, and resources.
The idea behind SLS's makerspaces is to create a community-driven environment that fosters innovation, learning, and hands-on experimentation.
Makerspaces are not only places for creating physical objects but also serve as hubs for knowledge sharing, skill development and making things. The term "makerspace" reflects the focus on individuals actively making and creating rather than just consuming or passively learning.
See our MakerSpace in action.....
Saint Leo’s MAKERSPACE official opened this week and we are already amazed at the enthusiasm and creativity seen by our students.
After completing reading and science lessons related to robots and technology, Fifth Graders were tasked with ‘designing a robot that could help with a problem they have identified at home, their community, or even globally.’ After sketching out and labeling their designs, students were able to start building their prototypes with materials generously donated by our SLS families and friends in the Makerspace. On Monday, fifth graders proudly presented their ‘work in progress’ to their Kindergarten buddies. Next, our newly inspired young learners started developing their own ideas, and the classes worked together to make 2D and 3D designs of their concepts.
