St. Leo's School takes the safety and security of our students seriously. We have the following security measures in place:
 

• Card Access: We utilize an access control system on the entry doors, lobby doors, and main office of our school. SLS is able to control who has access and at what times.
• Surveillance Cameras: SLS recently updated our security surveillance system. Security cameras are located in strategic locations both inside and outside the school premises. Live view monitors give administrators a bird's eye view of what is happening on and in our property.
• Communication Systems: All classrooms are equipped with phones that allow teacher's and staff to communicate internally and externally as well as to access 911. We also offer a building wide intercom system that allows authorized staff members to make building wide announcements.
• Panic Alarm: We utilize a panic alarm system that alerts local law enforcement of an emergency situation without the need to call them directly.  

• Emergency Response Plan: SLS has an Emergency Response Plan that is reviewed yearly.  All staff members are fully trained in the resonse plan in the event covers various scenarios, including natural disasters, fires, and security threats.
• Security Drills In accordance with NJ State law various drills are performed twice montly to ensure that staff and students are prepared in case of an emergency. Drills include:
  • Fire Drill
  • Evacuation
  • Shelter In Place
  • Active Shooter

• Collaboration with Emergency Services:  SLS fosters strong relationships with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical services. We are fortunate to have a strong police presence at our school before, during and after school hours. 

• Maintenance and Upkeep: SLS does frequent safety checks to ensure that the school facilities are well-maintained and free from potential hazards. In addition, we regularly inspect buildings, playgrounds, and equipment to identify and address any safety concerns promptly. SLS also works very closely with a local security vendor specializing in school security and technology to ensure our systems are functioning properly and to offer any new technology options to us.
• Secure Perimeter:  Except during drop off hours or special circumstances, SLS playgrounds are secured with fences and gates that are locked at all times. Monitor and control access points to prevent unauthorized entry.

Visitor Management - All visitors to St. Leo's School, must sign in at the front office and obtain a vistiors bagde.  This helps indentify any visitors to our school premises and ensures only authorized visitors are in the building.

Any outside vendor requiring access to the school will be supervised by a certified employee.

In addition, any parent volunteers at SLS must complete the Protecting God's Children course and go through a background check to ensure the safety of our students. 

Regular assessments and updates to safety protocols are essential to adapt to evolving threats and challenges. By addressing the physical, procedural, and cultural aspects of safety, SLS  can create a secure environment conducive to learning and personal development.
